Solid Wood Flooring Vs. Engineered Wood Flooring

By Jack Wogan

There are many reasons why we prefer the wood for our floors: it looks really good, it is resistant, easy to clean and hypoallergenic. A solid wood floor will last for at least 10 years and can be refurbished and refreshed as many times as we want to. The architect Ross Chapin said about wood that is a "lively material that brings any home to life." Moreover, they highly increase the value of a house on the real estate market.

This type of floors is very popular and quite expensive. Nevertheless, you must take into account some disadvantages of this flooring. Moisture and extreme temperature changes make the wood to constrict and dilate, for which distances might appear between the timbers. That is why it must not be used for basements, bathrooms or other interiors that are highly moisturized.

The type of floor design that you are going to choose will add value and elegance to your entire residence, and it's also highly resistant in time.
The classical flooring are made of 100% solid hardwood planks, obtained from one unique block of wood. Solid wood floors are warm in the wintertime and cold in the summertime. It is noiseless, resistant, economic, and durable over the years.

There are advantages and disadvantages for any floor, but wood remains on top. Beside the fact that it can be easily clean and maintained, wood confers a nice and pleasant design, is a material which keeps the house warm and is highly resistant.

There is a full rang of wood floor available on the market, from hardwood like oak, maple or cherry to some more exotic varieties, such as teak, cypress or bamboo. Hardwoods, like oak or cherry, are more durable. Softwoods, like pine, will get bent and twisted if they are not treated with a substance that infiltrates deep down into its fibres.
